Mulund College of Commerce

Popularly known as: MCC. It seems some of the best colleges have short-forms for names, and this one's not to be left behind.

Its claim to fame:  One of the city's better commerce college and Mulund's pride. Its close proximity to Mulund Railway Station makes it a popular choice for students staying far away too. Blast from the past: MCC was founded 28 years ago by the Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association, also known as PTVA. (Seems like everything has a short-forms these days!)  What about the college? It is definitely seen as one of the leading lights in the commerce field with many meritorious students to its credit.

Tell us more:  Well, it is one of the few colleges which gives coaching to students for most of the Post Graduate, Diploma and Foundation Courses like CA, CS and ICWA. And all this is just in addition to the usual University-prescribed courses. Any plus points? The students claim that their college has the best teaching staff around. What's more, even the non-teaching staff is touted to be the best.

The other side of the coin:  There seems to be only one negative. The college is adjacent to the local Sessions Court. So if there is ever any problem, the judgment comes instantly. MCC's famous sons of the soil: Tushar Das and Aparna Ghole, both toppers in their own right, will always have place in MCC's hall of fame.

MCC and sports:  Have a long relationship. Dheeraj Bhangera, Mumbai University's volleyball vice captain happens to be from here. And the college cricket team seems to be just romping around the place with shields and prizes.

Is that all?  Nopes. How can we forget the chess champions, D Ravishankar and Ramkrishna Kahelkar. MCC's sports stars sure have made it for themselves. MCC's Deepti Vaidya has broken the 42- year-old National record in 110 m hurdle.

Tell us more:  The tournaments organised by MCC are counted to be amongst the best in the city. What is the average MCC'ite like? Just like any other college student. They don't set trends, trends set them. Hangouts: Now that's a difficult one. The choice of hangouts vary from canteen to auditorium. The students refrain from breaking out because of the presence of a court in the vicinity. Any misdemeanours would earn instant punishment.

How's the food scene?  Cleanliness - next to godliness? Well, this saying may not be not quite epitomised by the canteen but still, the grub's still quite good.

Any college fest?  Of course. There's Spectrum, Mumbai's only college festival that runs for eight whole days. The Students' Council along with a prof-in-charge are instrumental in the organising. Prof Pramod Lele and student Aniruddha Shetty are two names synonymous with this fest.

How do the students respond?  Well, students have been just choc-a-bloc with all these activities. They've got no time to respond at all!

How would you sum up MCC?  Well, all in all, it is a great learning experience for any fresher as with each passing day the students learn the tricks of the trade from their illustrioius seniors.
